Paul Sheldon, an acclaimed romance novelist, wakes up in the secluded home of his "number one fan", Annie Wilkes, who has rescued him from a near-fatal car accident. Isolated by a blizzard and incapacitated by his injuries, Paul is grateful for Annie's kindness as she nurses him back to health. But when events take a nightmarish turn, Paul realizes that she has no intentions of letting him leave.
